What if...the USAF chose Republic to develop the X-91 into the F-91.
The F-91 proved to be an excellent All Weather Fighter-Interceptor. The aircraft retained the XLR-11 rocket motors from the X-91, enabling it to reach intercept altitude faster then other comtemporary aircraft of the time.
The F-91A was fitted with 6 fifty caliber machine guns and 24-2.75 Might Mouse folding fin aerial rockets. With each model the armament improved.
The F-91D was one of the first aircraft to carry the AIM-9 'Sidewinder, and was capable of carrying the AIR-2A Genie rocket and AIM-4F Falcon missile.
Depected here is the F-91F Thunderceptor, Two Seat All Weather Fighter Interceptor. It is armed with 2-30mm cannon in lieu of the 4-20mm cannon carried by the D-model.
The 'F' carries the same J-75 turbo-jet engine as the 'E' Model which greatly improved it's speed and interception time, and giving the aircraft a speed approaching Mach 2. The unique wings and 'v' tail, made for excllent handling at high speeds.
